I am often told that SSDs will degrade and die, without a bad clunking noise how will I know?
Well fear not, for old hats like me there is an application which will keep an eye on your precious solid state drive.
I introduce to you SSDLife! A neat bit of software that tells you some nice information on your SSD.
It will tell you the following:
- The health of your drive
- It’s predicted life span
- Usage statistics
There is a free trial available of this software, although I would probably recommend the investment as a part of your regular maintenance routines if you are using this in a commercial environment. This may also come in handy if your buying a second-hand laptop in the near future. It would seem that the disk doesn’t lie.
The software is available from here.
I have learned that it is not the software that calculates the life span of your drive. Rather the drive telling the software what it has left in it! Needless to say I will be here at midnight on August the 22nd 2022 crossing my fingers that my bloody expensive drive is ok! I should probably set a reminder in Outlook to take a backup on the 22nd?
One more thing, some drives like this Intel one have the runtime stored in a different format, so the total hours used is completely wrong, but everything else is normal.
